How to use Exness MT4 on multiple devices
Install MetaTrader 4 on each supported device, then connect each installation to the same Exness MT4 account and server. You can find your trading account details in your Exness Personal Area.
Step-by-step setup
1. Check your account type. It must be an MT4 account; an MT5 account cannot be accessed through MT4.
2. Install MT4 from a trusted source. Use Exness’s official platform links or the official mobile app listing, subject to regional availability.
3. Choose the existing-account login option. On mobile, search for the exact Exness server shown in your account details.
4. Enter your trading account number and trading password. These are different from your Personal Area email login.
5. Confirm the connection. Check the account number, balance and open positions before placing an order.
Repeat these steps on your other device. Logging in on your phone does not normally disconnect the desktop terminal. However, connectivity and account access remain subject to Exness’s current conditions and security controls.
What syncs—and what stays on each device?
Account information comes from the trading server. Platform customisation is generally stored locally.
- Shared across connected sessions: account balance, open positions, pending orders and server-held stop-loss and take-profit levels.
- Not automatically shared: chart layouts, templates, custom indicators, locally configured alerts and Expert Advisor settings.
- History display can differ: desktop history filters and mobile views may show different periods even though they refer to the same account.
If you close a position on your phone, that closure should appear on your connected desktop terminal once it updates. Likewise, changing a position’s stop loss on one device changes the actual order—not just that device’s display.
Two devices do not mean two separate portfolios. Both sessions control the same funds and positions. Coordinate carefully if someone else has authorised access, since conflicting edits or duplicate orders are possible.
EAs and trailing stops need extra care
MT4 mobile apps do not run desktop Expert Advisors or desktop custom indicators. An EA running on your computer can continue trading while you monitor the account from your phone, but the computer—or a properly configured VPS—must remain operational and connected.
Avoid running the same EA on multiple terminals connected to one account unless its design explicitly supports that arrangement. Otherwise, it may place duplicate trades or interfere with another instance’s order management.
Standard MT4 trailing stops are also terminal-side features. They need the relevant terminal running and connected to keep adjusting. A stop-loss level already submitted to the server remains in place, although execution prices are not guaranteed, particularly during gaps or volatile markets.
Troubleshooting and account security
If your second device will not connect, check:
- Server: select the exact server, including whether it is for a demo or live account.
- Credentials: use the trading password, not your Personal Area password.
- Platform: confirm you have MT4 rather than MT5.
- Connection: update the app and check your internet access.
An investor password provides read-only access rather than trading permission. Use it where monitoring is sufficient, and never share your main trading credentials casually. Secure each device with a screen lock and enable available account-security protections. Contact Exness support if access problems persist.
Exness versus Vantage for multi-device trading
Exness already supports the core workflow described above; there is no need to switch brokers simply to monitor an MT4 account from several devices. Broker choice matters more for jurisdiction, costs, instruments and support.
Vantage is our featured alternative. The Vantage group includes FCA- and ASIC-regulated entities, but your contracting entity—and the protections available—depends on your location and onboarding route. Those licences do not cover every Vantage customer worldwide.
Vantage offers MT4, MT5 and TradingView access, subject to account and regional availability. Its raw-spread accounts advertise spreads from 0.0 pips, with commissions and other costs potentially applicable. Advertised minimum spreads are not typical all-session pricing or guaranteed execution costs. TradingView access also does not necessarily mean your MT4 account connects directly to it.
Compare the actual entity, commission schedule, typical spreads on your preferred instruments and withdrawal conditions before choosing either broker.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Vantage is an advertising partner; we may earn a commission.
