What counts as better trading conditions?
A broker advertising tighter spreads is not automatically cheaper. Compare the same instrument, trade size and trading session, then include every relevant charge.
- Spread: Check typical spreads during your trading hours, not just advertised minimums.
- Commission: Calculate the full opening-and-closing charge on commission-based accounts.
- Overnight financing: Compare swaps for your usual holding period, including any multi-day rollover charges.
- Execution: Consider slippage, rejected orders and performance around volatile announcements.
- Margin rules: Review leverage tiers, margin calls, stop-out levels and temporary margin increases.
- Account protections: Identify the legal entity holding your account and the rules that apply to it.
For illustration, a hypothetical account with a typical 0.2-pip EUR/USD spread and a $7 round-trip commission per standard lot costs approximately $9 per round trip. That is roughly 0.9 pips, assuming a USD-denominated account and a $10 pip value. A wider spread-only account could still be cheaper.
Exness: reasons to stay, and reasons to compare
Exness offers spread-only and commission-based account structures, alongside MT4 and MT5. Its advertised low minimum spreads on certain accounts can appeal to active traders. Flexible leverage and account-management features may also suit eligible clients.
However, advertised minimum spreads do not describe the price available throughout the day. Check account-specific commissions, financing charges and the conditions attached to any swap-free treatment. High leverage is a risk multiplier, not evidence of better execution or lower costs.
The contracting entity matters too. Exness’s UK and Cyprus entities do not provide trading services to retail clients; retail availability and protections depend on other entities and your jurisdiction. Do not assume a group’s regulatory licences all protect your particular account.
Switching makes sense only if an alternative improves a condition you actually use. A swing trader might prioritise financing costs, while a scalper may focus on spread-plus-commission costs and execution quality.
Featured alternative: Vantage
Vantage is worth comparing if you want raw-spread pricing, a broader choice of trading interfaces or access to a locally regulated entity where eligible.
Pricing and platforms
Vantage advertises raw spreads from 0.0 pips on relevant accounts, with commissions applying. This is an advertised starting point, not a typical spread or a guarantee of cheaper trading than Exness. Compare the current commission schedule and observed spreads for your preferred instruments.
Vantage offers MT4, MT5 and TradingView, subject to entity, account and regional availability. TradingView integration may be useful if you prefer its charts and workflow; confirm that your intended account supports it before funding. Platform availability alone does not establish execution quality.
Regulation and account eligibility
The Vantage group includes FCA-regulated and ASIC-regulated entities. This does not mean every Vantage customer trades under UK or Australian rules. Your residence, onboarding route and eligibility determine the entity you can access.
For eligible retail accounts, these jurisdictions impose leverage limits and other protections. Compensation arrangements differ: UK FSCS eligibility is conditional, while ASIC regulation does not provide an equivalent UK-style compensation scheme. Verify the legal name and licence against the relevant regulator’s register.
Open a Vantage account to review eligibility and available account options. Read the applicable terms and fee schedule before depositing.
Other alternatives to shortlist
Compare Pepperstone and IC Markets if your priority is commission-based forex pricing and platform choice. IG may also merit consideration if market coverage and research tools matter more than raw-spread pricing. None is universally cheaper than Exness; entity-specific terms and instrument-level costs decide the comparison.
How to make the final decision
Shortlist two brokers and record costs for your five most-traded instruments. Check typical spreads during your session, round-trip commissions, overnight charges and withdrawal terms. Use demos to assess platform usability, but remember that demo fills cannot establish live execution quality.
If you proceed, test with a small amount you can afford to lose. Assess live costs and withdrawals before moving substantial funds. Choose Vantage over Exness only when the applicable account offers a measurable benefit—not simply a lower advertised minimum spread.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Vantage is an advertising partner; we may earn a commission.
