Start with the error message
Different messages point to different problems, although wording varies by platform and device:
- No connection: The terminal cannot establish or maintain its server connection. Investigate your internet connection, server selection and possible maintenance.
- Invalid account / Authorization failed: Check your trading account number, trading password and selected server.
- Waiting for update: Often a chart or symbol-data issue. Confirm the terminal is connected before troubleshooting the chart.
- Trade disabled / Market closed: These are not necessarily connection faults. Account permissions, instrument restrictions or trading hours may explain them.
A chart that stops moving over a weekend is not, by itself, evidence of an outage. Check the instrument’s trading schedule and the terminal’s connection status.
Fix Exness server connection issues step by step
1. Match the account to the platform and server
Open your Exness Personal Area through the official website and inspect the affected trading account’s details. Confirm:
- Whether it is an MT4 or MT5 account.
- Whether it is a demo or real account.
- Its trading account number and exact server name.
MT4 credentials do not work in MT5, or vice versa. Selecting a similarly named server is not enough; use the server assigned to that particular account.
On desktop, open File → Login to Trade Account. On mobile, use the account-management screen to add or sign into an existing account; menu names vary. Search for the broker and select the matching server. Avoid guessing server addresses from third-party forums.
2. Use the trading password
Your Exness Personal Area password is not necessarily your trading account password. Enter the trading account number rather than your email address, and check for accidental spaces when pasting credentials.
An investor password provides read-only access, so a successful login with it does not allow trading. If necessary, reset the affected account’s trading password through the official Personal Area. Never share passwords or verification codes with anyone offering connection help.
3. Isolate a network problem
Try opening another website, then test the terminal using a different trusted connection, such as a mobile hotspot. A working browser does not prove that your network permits MetaTrader traffic.
Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy if you use one. Check whether your firewall or security software blocks the terminal, but do not disable security protection broadly. On a managed workplace network, ask the administrator about restrictions.
If the same account connects through another network, that points toward a local network issue rather than a broker-wide outage.
4. Restart, update and compare access routes
Close and reopen MetaTrader, then install available updates from an official source. Check that your device’s date and time are correct.
If available for your account, test Exness’s supported web terminal or another device. Successful access elsewhere helps narrow the fault, though different platforms may use different infrastructure. Reinstallation should come later: back up custom indicators, templates and expert-advisor settings first.
5. Check maintenance and contact support
Review official Exness notices and ask support whether your specific server is affected. Send the error text, server name, platform version, approximate time with time zone, and relevant Journal entries. Redact personal information from screenshots.
If you have open positions, prioritize contacting support and checking another supported access route. A disconnected terminal does not necessarily close positions. Server-held stop orders may remain active, while locally running expert advisors and trailing stops generally need a connected terminal.
Exness versus Vantage: should you switch?
One connection incident is not enough to establish that Exness is unreliable. Diagnose the cause first: changing brokers will not fix a blocked network or incorrect platform setup.
Vantage is our featured alternative if you also want to compare platforms, pricing and regulatory arrangements. Its group includes FCA- and ASIC-regulated entities, but the entity serving you depends on eligibility and location. Those protections do not automatically apply to every Vantage account.
Vantage advertises raw spreads from 0.0 pips on applicable accounts; these are advertised minimums, not typical all-in trading costs. Commissions, variable spreads and overnight charges can apply. Vantage offers MT4, MT5 and TradingView access, subject to account, entity and regional availability.
Before switching, compare the actual contracting entity, execution terms, total costs and support availability. Test your intended platform and connection on a demo account, while remembering that demo conditions may differ from live trading. Neither broker can guarantee uninterrupted access.
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Vantage is an advertising partner; we may earn a commission.
